This is a Wild and Scenic River on US Forest Service land with limited ADA access.
This big annual event is held each July on the world famous West Walker River located near the towns of Walker and Coleville, Mono County, California. It was first conceived in 2001 by Debbie Bush from the Walker General Store. It is the only Derby in the Eastern Sierra that is held on the West Walker River. The river is stocked with Rainbow Trout, the world famous Alpers Trout and the Lahontan Cutthroat. Participants come from towns locally, from other states and even from far away countries to fish this wonderful river!
This fishing derby is open to all ages and no entry fee is required. All you need to do is catch a large trout out of the West Walker River, go to the Walker Country Store in Walker and have it weighed and you will be entered!
There are many great prizes ranging from fishing poles, to Lodging/RV vacations and other gear.
The real question is "How Big Is Big" when it comes to your trout!
